Here goes - I finished a painting in one sitting. It has been way too long since I have given myself an opportunity to do this.
I am going to be a bit brave here and share with you this new direction of my paintings.
Each painting will have a metaphor and most are stacked with symbolism. Each will have a narrative, sometimes in a series, sometimes of its own. I do love telling stories that interweave with daily life and the musings of situations we all find ourselves in.

There are actual Giants (Large corporations, consumerism and the domino effects of this) and there are perceived Giants. This is a narrative of (self) perceived giants and their tall poppy syndrome. Tall Poppy syndrome is is the cultural phenomenon of jealous people holding back or directly attacking those who are perceived to be better than the norm. In Japan, they call it "the nail that sticks out is hammered down".
For independent creative - where standing out is essential to developing a livelihood- the effects of Tall Poppy Syndrome present a problem.
We need to rethink how we view success- in ourselves + others, to ensure the (greater) community is exposed to great work with diversity, not deprived of it.
Those who seek to cut down poppies are fueled by fear; fear of losing their slice of the pie which is a negative and scarcity mindset.
These people are great at spinning webs of deception or pulling a veil over your perception of them so their image is never tarnished. Charm tactics, manipulation and veiled generosity are some of the behaviors. Some large corporations are known for this (also people).
It is a distraction. They do not wish to reveal their true character. It is inauthentic and they know it, or worst of all, they believe they have done no wrong (sociopaths and narcissists).
Those who are riddled with fear are masters of deception. I call them professional phonies.
We all have come across at least a few of these kinds, and without naming any names, I be we can all think of some large corporations who say one thing but do another.
This painting (above) is a metaphor and includes a lot of symbolism. I will outline it here. 1) The tree at the center is surrounded by real or perceived giants; those who will try to cut you down or pull you down to their level of mediocrity.
2) The Sky. The sky has layers of blue which represent the layers of awareness and consciousness you uncover as you start to trust your inner voice. Once you recognize that your feelings of self-doubt are a symptom of tall poppy syndrome from whomever is trying to keep you small, you can flip doubt and become aware of a situation + how it can be used to your benefit, rather than to your detriment.
3)The Darkness The dark green between the two large trees on the left represent the almost impenetrable veil or disguises that the professional phonies wear.
4) Rays of Light The rays of light cutting through the almost penetrable veil of disguise are the cracks that begin to show in the charade. The charade is fueled by scarcity mindset, fear and negativity, these are chaotic forces and are contagious behaviors. Light always win however - it may take longer but it is pure.
The rays of light touch the fledgling tree and layer by layer the fledgling climbs to the top of the canopy, guided by the light, the good.
5) The winding path. Life gives us choices. WE are presented with many paths and opportunities. Are you grasping, driven by fear, ego and scarcity mindset or are you driven by values, community, integrity and authenticity?
6) The Sapling. There are always those who are also starting out, maybe feeling a little lost or need a helping hand in the right direction, offer some of your light and include them. The lack of support can severely impact on the mental health of any creative (any human). There exists a misconception that there is a limited amount of success to go around. Some resort to cutting down or under-cutting competitors to protect their slice of the pie. What is plain and simple is that we can bake our own pie - a creative and diverse pie - the more people who go inward and make their own pies, will result in greater demand for pie (or creative work).
The success of those around you increases your ability for success - not prevent it.
Affirmation: I am a unique and special gift to the world.
Out of 7.6 billion people on this planet of consciousness, nobody is even remotely like you. In closing - go for gold! Be the quiet ferocity of light in the jungle of fear and negative mindsets.
This painting is for sale if you feel called to own it as a reminder of your gift in life in the face of adversity and those who try to make you feel small.
